Scapa Flow Visitor Centre and Museum restoration and improvement project

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) approved the Council’s first-round application for funding support for the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre and Museum restoration and improvement project, and provisionally allocated £904,000 towards the £3.048 M project.  Historic Environment Scotland and Highlands and Islands Enterprise have also previously allocated funds, which will require further approvals, in addition to securing Council funding as part of the Council’s capital programme.

A core team of officers and the appointed consultants have been working towards the HLF second-round application, which is due to be submitted on 3 March 2017.  We now have draft methodologies for the restoration of the existing buildings, and draft concept designs for the new museum building, which the staff team feel deliver what is required in a practical, creative and flexible way, and we are now keen to share these concept designs with stakeholders, to seek views and enable input.

Plans will be on display in the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre and Museum from Monday 24 October through to Monday 31st October, and we will also be hosting a drop-in event in the Scapa Flow Visitor Centre and Museum on Thursday 27th October from 2pm til 7pm when several of the staff team will be available.
