Longhope Lifeboat Museum Trust

Patron: HRH The Princess Royal
Scottish Charity number SC032029

The Trust was funded in 2000 by local people following the offer of the former Longhope Lifeboat “Thomas McCunn”, the redundant 1901 Lifeboat House and Slipway at Brims.

At present the Museum tells the story of the 1932 Watson Lifeboat “Thomas McCunn” together with the Longhope Lifeboat Disaster March 17th 1969. Thomas McCunn is the only launchable slipway lifeboat in the UK and served Longhope 1933-62

To date the project has been funded entirely by public donations; all restoration works, collections and displays have been carried out voluntarily. In the future the Museum will also illustrate the history of the Longhope Lifeboat since it’s beginning in 1874.

The Museum is not manned at all times, however you can make an appointment to view by contacting the Trust via their website

You can also email the museum via info@longhopelifeboatmuseum.org

  1. Hi
I was 16 years old and a deck boy on coaster carrying coal in to Belfast called the Craigmore we were heading to Blyth that night, we were three or four ships back from the stricken one
I remember walking on the top of the bulkheads I’m so glad I was too young and stupid to realise what was happening
It will never leave me what happened that niight and the older I get the more wonder how we made it back.
Anyone who was there that night can appreciate the bravery of that crew,
    God Bless them.

  2. I spent my childhood in Crockness (Bulwark). I now live in Clackmannanshire. A friend of mine is making plum jam for the Lifeboats so I asked her if she would do it for my Longhope Lifeboat.
Please would you let me have a postal address to which a cheque could be sent?
    Moira (nee Henderson).
