    • Hello Pam,

Hoy Sound meet at The Stromabank Hotel on Thursdays at 8pm.

We are a Community Choir, with members from Hoy & Walls, singing a wide variety of music including traditional choral pieces, folk & pop song arrangements and a number of bespoke settings of local poetry. There are no auditions & new members are always welcomed. It’s fine to come along and ‘give it a go’ or sit and listen for a week or two to see if it’s for you. We rehearse from 8pm to 10pm with a break of about 15 minutes at about 9pm, so there’s always opportunity for a drink & a chat too. We meet throughout the year, though often take a break for a few weeks during July/August.

Hoy Sound usually perform once or twice a year, but performance opportunities are very much led by members and built around their suggestions and availability. Recent performances have included a lunchtime concert at St Magnus Cathedral in Kirkwall & an evening concert at Hoy Kirk with the Orkney Camerata. Both of these recent outings have included a number of modern works specially composed for us by long-time friend of the choir, Laurence Rugg.

The current Musical Director of Hoy Sound is Andy Fellows, who may be contacted via email at andypianofellow@gmail.com
