Hi there,
I’m one person wishing to spend 7 nights on Hoy between 2 – 12 Sept to undertake some research but struggling to find affordable availability – do you know of anyone one who does Airbnb please (though can’t find them on there!)? Would love to stay with someone local. Many thanks : )
The Old Schoolhouse is an Airbnb site. See above for contact details.
Hello, we are looking for self-catering accommodation on Hoy for 4 people (one double bed and two singles in two or three bedrooms) for two weeks at the beginning of August 2018.
My wife is a free-lance writer and never knows if she’s going to have to work or not (a pain, I know), so she needs the internet.
Can you help by suggesting something?
Thanks

I can’t find a campsite on Hoy. If there really isn’t one, is it possible to stay on Hoy in a campervan or motorhome – not necessarily wild parking but for example in the parking area of a hostel (and against a fee, of course) or a pub/restaurant?
Thank you, Anne
Hello Anne,

Campers and caravans are welcome to camp for free upto 7 nights at Rackwick Bay car park. There are toilets with hot water and stunning views and beach, plus a bothy for public use, to explore. We loved it in our VW Cali. Plenty of room for over 8 units well-spaced!!! Loads of historical sites to visit up on the hills and a 3 mile walk to the Old Man of Hoy 🙂
Hi, is the bothy still accessible without prior arrangement ? Thankyou
Hi Barry,
The bothy is still accessible and is open without prior arrangement. Due to the nature of this, there may be more than one person wishing to use it at the same time.
Thanks

Hello
We have two dogs; is it possible to camp outside the bothy and use facilities, please?
Hi Peter,
The IoHDT do not manage the Bothy, however, as far as we are aware the Bothy is open to the public and there are facilities in the grounds for you and your dogs.
Thanks
IoHDT
We would like to stay on Hoy, arriving on Sunday night 21 July for 2 nights for 2 people. We will be driving from Inverness and are having a hard time figuring out the ferry service. We would like to drive more and ferry less. What route would be your suggestion? Also, is there a location you would recommend to stay? Considering Stromabank Hotel as we do need meals. Any suggestions or links would be appreciated.
Hi Cammie,
Most of the accommodation listings on our website have the links embedded on the images, you will find useful information and contact details for each of them there.
If you are travelling from Inverness, you will need to get the first ferry from mainland Scotland to Orkney, and then the next ferry from mainland Orkney to Hoy. The details for each of these services are detailed below.

https://www.northlinkferries.co.uk/timetables/

There are 2 options for travelling from the top of Scotland to Orkney, they leave from either Gill’s Bay, or Scrabster and arrive at different locations in Orkney. Both are relatively close to Houton, which is where the boat to Hoy leaves from.
Thanks

Hello,
we are a couple named Hoy which would love to have a civil wedding on or close to the Hoy Island + afterwards a photoshooting and exploring the island together. Just the both of us and our Photographer would come to the Island and stay from friday to sunday.
So our questions are:
Which places to sleep could work for us?
Is there a place for a civil wedding?
Do you know Photographer which make rustical, landscape and wedding pictures?
Thank you so much for all the help!
I am looking for two rooms check in 23/08, to check out 24/08. We are a company and working on the Wind Turbine. Is anybody able to help?
Hi Nicola,
I would strongly suggest contacting the providers directly as it is unlikely they will see this in time.
Thanks
Deanna (IoHDT)
